He received his initial training in Dhrupad from his grandfather, Prof. Om Prakash Malviya, and in Khayal from his father, Pt. Parimal Chaturvedi. Both his father and grandfather learned under the esteemed tutelage of Ustad Dilshad Hussain Khan Saheb and Ustad Wajid Hussain Khan Saheb (Lagan Piya) of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana.
