Work through a complete statics example to find the tension in chains supporting a suspended load at static equilibrium.
A 200 kg mass is held by two angled links. From the origin: link 1 goes up and left, making 60° from the vertical whilst link 2 goes down and right, making 30° from the horizontal. Since the system is in static equilibrium, the sum of forces in both the x- and y-directions must be zero. In this video, we go step by step through the calculation: determining the weight, forming the free body diagram, resolving forces into components, and applying equilibrium equations to obtain the tensions in each link.
