I've played bass guitar professionally for over 45 years, and I learned almost all of it by ear - so that's exactly how I teach. Most bass lessons start with sheet music or scales you have to memorise before you're allowed to play anything fun. Bass by Ear doesn't work that way, and honestly, it's not how most working musicians learn either. With Bass by Ear, you train your ears to hear a bass line and find it on the fretboard almost like a reflex - the same skill professional bassists rely on every day. TABs are only ever used afterwards, to double check what you've already worked out by ear, because even written TABs depend entirely on how good the transcriber's ears were (and they're often wrong, especially on groove and feel). You'll pick up just enough practical theory to actually use the handful of scales that show up in around 90% of pop, rock, blues and funk, plus real playing technique. I also use AI tools like Moises to isolate the bass in any song, slow it down, loop the tricky bits, and once you've learned the line, strip the bass out entirely so you can play it yourself over the original track. You'll leave every lesson with resources and exercises to keep practising between sessions. Every lesson is one-on-one, one hour, right here in my home studio in Sydney's Inner West - and it's built entirely around you, whatever songs you actually want to learn.
