The ULTIMATE Jazzmaster Setup Guide

After a long wait and many, many requests, my Ultimate Jazzmaster Setup Guide is finally here. In this video, I walk through how I dial in a master-level setup on a vintage-style Jazzmaster from start to finish using mostly basic or inexpensive / easily accessible tools. The goal is simple: low, comfortable action, solid tuning stability, a properly calibrated vibrato, and as little unwanted buzzing and rattling as possible. Along the way, we’ll cover bridge height and break angle, neck shims and reverse shims, Mustang-style and adjustable-radius bridges, action, intonation, bridge radius, Loctite for rattles and sinking saddles, vibrato calibration, truss rod adjustment, neck relief, string stretching, nut slot depth and binding, pickup height, high frets, noisy electronics, and a bunch of the smaller tips and tricks I’ve picked up from working on hundreds of offset guitars over the years. Whether you have a Fender, Squier, or another mostly vintage-style Jazzmaster, my hope is that this gives you the information and confidence to better understand how these guitars actually work together as a system—and how to dial yours in to play its best.
