Half Dome Cable Ascent. (With climbing belt)

For those of you torn on whether to clip in, or not too. We decided for our first ascent on Half Dome, we would approach this on this safe side. We werent extremely experienced in vigorous summits like this and had just hiked over 12 miles to the Glacier Point Summit and beyond, the day before. (we were already a bit beat up). Don't let the online chatter scare you into thinking your going to slow things down. We felt safe. We could have done it without. But we both agreed , why not? Your holding a cable anyways. We were fortunate. It was a pretty quiet day and at minimum 35-40% of the hikers were wearing climbing gear with simple slings and non locking caribiners, for quick un-hooking and reattachment. Many folks, permits in hand, decided not to make the climb as they approached the base and looked up. It was amazing. Don't psych yourself out, be safe and do what makes you feel comfortable.
