Congressman Cory Mills held one of the safest Republican seats in Florida. In February 2026, President Trump endorsed him. By August, he had lost his own party's primary to a former local TV anchor, and Trump said he had told him to get out of the race.
This episode follows the record: a restraining order granted to his ex-girlfriend, a censure push on the House floor by a fellow Republican, a House Ethics Committee investigation, reports of a Justice Department probe, and a president who quietly left him off his endorsement list four days before the vote.
Mills has not been charged with any crime and denies every allegation. The House Ethics investigation remains open. In November, Republican Ryan Elijah faces Democrat Bale Dalton for Florida's 7th District.
