Honsou’s invasion of Ultramar was designed to stretch the Ultramarines to breaking point. At Talassar, that strategy came terrifyingly close to succeeding. At the fortress of Castra Tanagra, Marneus Calgar and the Ultramarines First Company found themselves facing M’kar — an ancient Daemon Prince whose hatred for the sons of Guilliman stretched back thousands of years. But Talassar was never simply a duel between Calgar and M’kar. While Severus Agemman and the First Company fought to keep Castra Tanagra standing, Chief Librarian Varro Tigurius used his psychic power to delay an enemy the defenders could not destroy. Elsewhere, Uriel Ventris uncovered the forgotten identity of M’kar and discovered the weapon that could finally end him. Cato Sicarius and the warriors of the Second and Fourth Companies raced toward Talassar, while the Ultramarines fleet turned its attention toward the Indomitable above the world. Every part of the campaign was converging on a single fortress. This is the story of the Battle of Talassar — the history behind M’kar, the siege of Castra Tanagra, the role of Honsou’s invasion, the legacy of Remus Ventanus, and the combined effort that allowed the Ultramarines to destroy one of Ultramar’s oldest enemies. Who do you think was the most important Ultramarine at Talassar — Calgar, Tigurius, Ventris, Agemman, or someone else? Let me know in the comments.
