Bamboo .무여 문봉선의 대나무 오랜 세월 대나무를 바라보며 그 생태를 눈과 마음에 온전히 새겨두어야 한다. 손보다 마음이 먼저 움직여 화면에는 화가의 뜻과 기운이 자연스레 스며들어야 한다. 그렇게 해서 화폭에 드러난 대나무는 더 이상 가슴속에 품은 대나무도, 자연 속에서 익숙히 보아온 대나무도 아니다. 그것은 다만 그림으로서 새롭게 태어난, ‘그림 속의 대나무(畵中之竹)’라는 또 하나의 세계를 향해 나아간다. 대부분의 화가들은 화탁, 즉 책상 위에 서서 그리는 방법인데 필자는 어려서부터 방바닥에 엎드려 묵죽을 긋는 필법을 배웠다. 이 방법은 다소 불편하게 느껴질 수도 있지만 익숙해지면 글씨나 임리淋漓한 수묵화를 그리는 데 큰 도움이 된다고 확신한다. 세월이 삼십여 년을 훌쩍 넘겼지만, 죽림의 수만 그루 대나무 줄기는 여전히 나의 스승이자 스승이다. 지금도 눈앞에는 바람에 흔들리는 댓잎이 어른거리며 그때 그 감동을 불러일으킨다. Moon Bongsun's Ink Painting Despite today’s diversification of materials for expression, Moon Bongsun still adheres to ink sticks, brushes, and ink painting, for he believes “the ink stick is not just a black material, but something that embodies a spirit and history.” Ink sticks, when in contact with water, turn into ink and are given life on paper as his brush moves. Ink paining is highly abstract as it does not allow easy access to the profound world of “hyeon (玄, Blackness)”, but sometimes leads viewers to enlightenment in an instant. Ink sticks have been present for over 3,000 years and will continue to live a life of eternity. It is the beginning and the end of oriental painting...... To paint bamboo, one must spend long years observing it, engraving its life and form fully into both the eye and the mind. The mind moves before the hand; only then can the painter’s intention and vital energy enter the surface naturally. The bamboo that appears on the paper is no longer the bamboo held in memory, nor the bamboo long familiar in nature. It moves only toward becoming the bamboo reborn as painting, the bamboo within the painting (畵中之竹). Most painters work standing at a table or desk. From an early age, however, I learned to draw ink bamboo lying prone on the floor. Though this method may feel uncomfortable at first, once the body grows accustomed to it, it becomes a great aid in calligraphy and in painting ink works with full, flowing resonance. More than thirty years have passed, yet the countless bamboo stalks of the grove remain my teacher, still my teacher.
