One thing that happens a lot when I wake up on weekend mornings, is the thought immediately occurs to me "what should I do today?" Except calling it a thought would be like calling a burrito with eighteen ingredients a piece of bread. The "thought" is actually a strong impulse to "be productive" or "do something" that is actually an impulse and it occurs within seconds of consciousness coming online. Very odd and unsettling, especially since the only thing I wanted to do was relax, but even now that feels like an item on a todo list. I'm trying to understand my impulses more, by ignoring them and not acting on them, and listening to what they are saying. It's hard to not give in to impulses, because the fastest way to make it go away is to do what it's telling me to. So here I am, processing the thinking in realtime, and exploring my thoughts. I came up with three options I can do when getting a strong impulse to "do something": I can accept it and follow it (path of least resistance), I can fight it (expends a lot of energy and causes internal anxiety, and then I eventually do it usually out of exhaustion and a way to make it go away), or I can ignore it -- which is what I'm doing here. Ignoring it and observing it. I've never really done this before, so it is cool to see what is happening. I liked making this one. It's me thinking out loud.
