What if the human emotions we experience every day are part of something far larger than we realise? Robert Monroe's accounts of altered states of consciousness introduced one of the strangest ideas in modern occult literature: Loosh, a mysterious form of emotional energy allegedly produced through the experiences of living beings. According to Monroe's accounts, his out-of-body experiences led him to encounter a vast system in which emotional energy appeared to be collected, transformed, and used by intelligent beings. Love, fear, suffering, attachment, and other intense experiences seemed to have a value beyond the individual experiencing them. But there is an even stranger question. Why do Monroe's descriptions sometimes appear to resemble ideas found in much older spiritual traditions? The Nag Hammadi Library, discovered in 1945, contains ancient Gnostic writings describing hidden realities, spiritual beings, and humanity's relationship with forces operating beyond ordinary perception. The similarities are intriguing, but they raise an important historical problem: Monroe's work began decades before many of these texts became widely available in English. So are these similarities evidence of an ancient connection, independent discoveries, or simply recurring patterns in the way humans interpret unusual experiences? In this video, we examine Monroe's firsthand accounts of the mysterious Loosh system, his encounters with higher-dimensional beings, and the disturbing possibility that human emotional experience could serve a purpose beyond our own awareness. We then turn to Zen, Taoist teachings, and the words attributed to Christ to explore a very different question: if such a system existed, would the answer be to escape it, understand it, or simply stop feeding the patterns that keep it running? This is not presented as proof that a literal cosmic harvesting system exists. Instead, we explore the ideas, the historical connections, and the philosophical implications behind one of the strangest theories to emerge from the study of altered consciousness. If Monroe was describing something real, what exactly was he seeing? And if the Loosh system was only a metaphor, why does the idea continue to resonate with ancient teachings about attachment, suffering, desire, and consciousness?
