Tajikistan had 26 airports in 2009, of which 18 had paved runways, with two having runways longer than 3,000 metres. In 2025, Tajikistan's international airports served 2,963,000 passengers, marking a 21% increase compared to 2024. Major airports include: Dushanbe International Airport – the country's main hub, featuring a 3,100-metre main runway capable of accommodating Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s. In 2025, construction began on a new 1,500-metre taxiway and 10 additional parking lots for large aircraft as part of an "Open Skies" policy. The "Open Skies" policy, introduced in June 2025, abolished the previous principle of flight parity, which limited the number of flights operated by foreign airlines, equating them to the number of flights operated by domestic carriers. A new terminal is also under construction at Dushanbe International Airport, with Turkish specialists preparing the design documentation and the facility scheduled to open within one to two years. In December 2025, President Rahmon ordered the renovation of the international airports of Dushanbe, Bokhtar, and Kulob to bring them into line with modern service standards.
