This is my example of the rhythmic response for Advance 1. I chose to do mine at the 'medium' pace, as this was the speed which my steps flowed best to. The main feedback I can offer with regards to candidates creating their rhythmic response is to look for simple steps, as opposed to 'tricks', that most reliably and clearly communicate the counts given and make use of light and shade to reflect the accents in the rhythm provided. At this level, the examiner knows you can do turning toe-stands and wing tick-tocks, but this isn't the place to show them off, the point of the rhythmic response is to allow the examiner to see your sense of rhythm and clarity of beating that also reflects on the music supplied, such as the Spanish style piece offered for this grade. So in my opinion, the simpler your steps, the more consistent your execution will be and the more likely your rhythm is to be accurate with the set counts.
