“I’ll meet you in the bus stop.” Something about that feels slightly off. It should be “at the bus stop.”
These three tiny words, “in,” “on,” and “at,” confuse English learners at every level, but there is a clear logic underneath once you understand the patterns.
In this episode, Sophia explains how to use IN, ON and AT for places and time, along with common exceptions and real-life examples. This lesson is designed for A2–B1 English learners.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
• “At” for a precise point
• “On” for a surface, street, day or date
• “In” for an enclosed space or longer period
• Why we say “in the morning” but “at night”
• Transport: “in a car” but “on a bus,” “on a train” and “on a plane”
• The zoom trick: country, street and exact address
• Common mistakes with IN, ON and AT
This week’s challenge: when describing where something is or when something happens, picture the logic: a point, a surface or a container.
