The Subaru Impreza Casa Blanca is an official, retro-styled special edition of the first-generation Impreza sports wagon.
Key Details
• Production and Years: Built from late 1998 through 2000 in a limited run of 5,000 units. It was originally launched as a limited special edition before becoming a regular catalog model, though sales were low.
• Retro Design: Created to tap into a late-1990s Japanese trend for classic, vintage-style cars (following similar kei car variants like the Subaru Vivio Bistro and Sambar Dias Classic). It features round headlights, a vertical-slat chrome grille, bespoke chrome-accented bumpers, and distinctive round taillights.
• Interior: Features unique vertically-striped retro seat fabric, white-backed gauges, a two-tone or leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Impreza-branded floor mats.
• Mechanics: Beneath the vintage exterior, it is mechanically identical to a standard JDM first-generation Impreza wagon. It is powered by a 1.5-liter EJ15 naturally aspirated flat-four boxer engine (producing around 94–95 hp) paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive.
• Availability: Sold primarily in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), with a small number exported to places like Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Due to its rarity and quirky look, it has developed a cult following among JDM enthusiasts.
