Point Roberts is part of Washington State, but reaching the rest of Washington by road means crossing into Canada and then back into the United States. What looks like a strange border anomaly becomes even more surprising when you see how that border shapes school access, essential services, drinking water, electricity, and everyday life. Point Roberts exists because the U.S.–Canada boundary established along the 49th parallel crossed the Tsawwassen Peninsula, leaving its southern tip in the United States. Today, this small American community operates through an unusual mix of local services and cross-border connections. Its drinking water is tied to Metro Vancouver's system, while Puget Sound Energy documents show that its electrical system is not physically connected to PSE's main system and instead relies on a single intertie with BC Hydro's distribution grid. This documentary follows the geography behind Point Roberts and the hidden system that makes daily life there possible—revealing why the border is not only a barrier, but also part of how the community works.
