UBoot64 v4.0.0 is a boot menu cartridge for Commodore 64 machines with an Ultimate device: the Ultimate 64 (Elite, Elite II), the C64 Ultimate and the Ultimate II+. Up to 18 slots start your programs, games and demos in one key press: from a disk image, from a drive, or straight from the Ultimate's own file system, with disk images mounted and a REU image preloaded where needed. Everything in this video was captured from the video streams of an Ultimate 64 Elite and an Ultimate 64-II, on real hardware; no emulator. New in v4.0.0 • Program settings files: when a slot boots, UBoot64 applies the program's own Ultimate settings file (.cfg), as the Ultimate's own file browser does; lines meant for another model are skipped. A slot can also get its own settings file (S in the file browser), and a baseline file sets things back at every start • Loose .prg files from the Ultimate's file system can be added to a slot directly (ENTER in UCI mode): UBoot64 copies them through the REU into memory, up to 64 KB, so even Mandelbrot Upic, which fills almost all of memory, starts from a slot • Old configurations (v1, v2, v3) are converted at start-up, with backup copies kept • F2 shows the Ultimate model; storage on any SD or USB device is found automatically • New file format v4, hence the major version; many smaller fixes (see the changelog) Also shown • Building a GEOS slot from scratch: two disk images, a 16 MB REU preload and the boot program from the mounted image • BluREU by Crest, from a slot with a REU preload • Partitions (F4) on the Ultimate's SoftIEC drive and on an SD2IEC with C64 OS Thanks • Christian Gleissner, for finding and fixing a start-up hang in the Ultimate Command Interface library • Bart van Leeuwen, for the default boot slot idea • Sascha Bader and Dirk Jagdmann, for DraBrowse, on which the file browser is based • Gideon Zweijtzer, for the Ultimate devices • Shown in the video: GEOS with GDOS64 by Markus Kanet, BluREU by Crest, and Mandelbrot Upic Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:14 Converting old settings (format v4) 0:35 Start-up and information (F2) 0:56 Building a GEOS slot from scratch 2:29 Booting the GEOS slot 2:59 BluREU from a slot with REU preload 3:56 Partitions: SoftIEC and SD2IEC 4:34 Mandelbrot Upic: a 63 KB program from a slot 5:18 Configuration (F5) 5:29 Credits Links • Download (free, GPLv3), manual and source: https://github.com/xahmol/UBoot64-v2 • Releases: https://github.com/xahmol/UBoot64-v2/... • Mandelbrot Upic: https://github.com/xahmol/mandelbrot-... • Ultimate library used: https://github.com/xahmol/ultimate-uc... • Blog: https://www.idreamtin8bits.com/ Requirements An Ultimate 64 / Elite / Elite II, C64 Ultimate or Ultimate II+ with a REU and the Command Interface enabled.
