Most students don't lose TCF and TEF writing points because of their French. They lose them in the last 15 minutes, when they should be checking their work and instead hand in a rough draft of all three tasks.
In this video I share the exact checklist I give my students to review before they hand in the final draft. After 30+ years of teaching French and correcting thousands of essays (and training civil servants, the Canadian Army and Fortune 500 executives), the same mistakes keep coming back. Every item on this list comes from them.
In this video: → Why strong students still lose points: translating word for word, adding fancy extra words, and not rereading → Check 1: Every noun needs an article (le, la, les, un, une, des) and the contractions au, aux, du, des → Check 2: Accents that change meaning: a vs. à, mangé vs. mange, très, près vs. prêt, ou vs. où → Check 3: À, de or pour? Cities, countries (au Canada, en France, aux États-Unis), jouer à vs. jouer de, quantities with "de," and when "pour" really means "in order to"
Use this checklist before every writing task to protect your CLB 7 or CLB 9 target for Express Entry and permanent residence in Canada.
