Stronger cooperatives, stronger communities: Lessons from APFP-FO4A in Cambodia

What does it take to build stronger and more sustainable livelihoods for small-scale farmers? Across Cambodia, the experiences of FNN, FWN, FAEC, FAEC-Cambodia, CFAP, and FCFD show how farmer organizations are helping cooperatives strengthen their businesses, improve access to markets, and create opportunities for their members. Through the APFP-FO4A program, these organizations have supported farmers through financial assistance, business planning, organizational development, and enterprise support. Their stories offer important lessons: access to capital must go hand in hand with strong management; collective action can open opportunities for farmers; and sustainable enterprises grow when organizations respond to the needs of their members. The Asia-Pacific Farmers Programme – Farmers’ Organisations for Asia (APFP-FO4A) was implemented by AFA and La Via Campesina (LVC), with funding from the European Union (EU) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
