Yes, we know: the problem with (Choose-Yer-Country)'s-Best-Kept-Secret? videos is that they send everyone to that place. And then the cat's out of the bag, and what was for millennia a sleepy fishing village turns into a Cancun or a Pattaya or a Goa. The quaint charm vanishes. The quiet beach stroll becomes the all-night rave scene. Multi-story buildings sprout like poison mushrooms after a rain to blot out the sea view. The cheerful and generous locals become hardened scam artists. The plywood shack on the beach where you once found a superb seafood lunch for a dollar is now only a sweet and distant memory, bulldozed to make space for a post-modernist architectural nightmare where a Michelin-starred micro-meal costs a fortune. Yes, we know how it goes! But all that only happens with help from the "viral" videos. We're a viral-free small channel with only a few hundred subscribers, so it's unlikely that due to our influence you'll see neon signs and casinos springing up in LARACHE, MOROCCO any time soon. And if with our video we can inspire a few intrepid souls to visit, we're happy to have provided the suggestion. We landed in Larache at the start of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month when everyone fasts from sunrise to sunset, and had a terrific time. And there are almost no tourists in Larache, which makes it even better. Clean, quiet, orderly, and with a friendly population and delicious inexpensive seafood — what's not to like? We spent three days there, but, in response to a question we got from a local within the first ten minutes of our arrival — "Would you like to live here?" — we thought: We could certainly imagine worse places to live...
