7 Types of Houses You Should NEVER Buy

Most “never buy this type of house” advice is too neat to be useful. A house type is usually just a condition wearing a costume, and conditions have prices, tests, records, and ways to be checked before you sign. In this one I go through seven of the big warnings buyers hear all the time: hundred-year-old houses, flood plains, underground oil tanks, quick flips, oversized custom features, long-vacant houses, and the only item on the list I’d actually call a hard never. We get into what matters with each one: lead service lines, knob-and-tube and insurance, when asbestos is a leave-alone problem, why flood math fools people, how to read a flip at the seams, what heavy features do to framing, and what vacancy really tells you. The whole point is not panic. It’s homework. Pull the permit record. Ask for the disclosure. Get the quote before you’re under contract.
