Amy Winehouse: What Her Doctor Told the Inquest

On the evening of 22 July 2011, Amy Winehouse's GP sat with her at 30 Camden Square. Her patient was tipsy but coherent, calm and somewhat guilty. She had started drinking again two days earlier, she said, because she was bored. Asked whether she would stop, she said she did not know. Told how serious it had become, she said: I don't want to die. Forty-one hours later the man who lived in her house could not wake her. Toxicology found no illegal drugs in her body. Her doctor told the inquest she had given up illicit drugs in 2008. What killed her was alcohol - 416 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood, more than five times the drink-drive limit. This film is built from the evidence given at both coronial hearings into her death, in October 2011 and January 2013, from contemporaneous reporting of them, and from the published accounts of her family. Told in 12 parts across about 34 minutes, from contemporary photographs, official records and first-hand accounts. Every claim in the narration is sourced; where the record is contested, the film says so rather than choosing the better story.
