We left RCAF Station Comox in Oct 1957. We were on your way to 419 Sqn 4(F) Wing Baden-Sollingen Germany. Mom wrote, “We travelled to Winnipeg through the US. Bought you kids new clothes still had money left, we thought we were rich. Visited with Memere and Pepere (my dad’s parents as we called them) and family, then on to Quebec City where we sailed on the SS Homeric an Italian line. What a trip we sailed 31st of October 1957. Hit a storm, tables, chairs all over, glass. People sliding through glass in the dining room. Dad grabbed one lady by the leg as she slipped by. She was cut with the glass. The Boat a stabilizer that had broken and the boat had swung completely around heading to Canada instead of England. Waiter were scolded. What a mess. The Boat pitched so much the night that night dad fell, fell out of his bunk. Loss was seasick as she was most of the trip. The trip across took three days longer than it should have 10 days
instead of seven.”
We landed at Southampton England. Once the car was unloaded we were off to Billingham to visit mom’s parents.
