The sancharis in the performance portrays the story of Daksha, Goddess Sati’s father, organized a yajna (sacrificial ritual) but deliberately didn’t invite Lord Shiva due to his dislike for him. Sati attended uninvited and was humiliated by her father, who insulted Shiva. Unable to bear this, Sati immolated herself in the sacrificial fire.
Enraged by her death, Lord Shiva created Veerabhadra, a fierce form, to destroy the yajna. Veerabhadra beheaded Daksha and wreaked havoc. Later, at the gods’ request, Shiva forgave Daksha and brought him back to life, replacing his head with that of a goat.
Deekshanya and Jayasakthi, the performers in this video are disciples of Guru iSmt. Dr. Kaveri Ramesh, whose guru, Thiru Aravindan, is an alumnae of Kalakshetra and a direct disciple of Rukmini Arundale.
