CNN reported on Oct 15 that the US military has drawn up new strike plans that could use the GBU-43/B "mother of all bombs" (MOAB), the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal, against Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear sites, including Pickaxe Mountain, if President Trump orders combat to resume, before or after the midterms. According to CNN's sources, Trump ordered additional strike packages, and the planning phrase was strikes "prior to US retrograde in CENTCOM AOR", which CNN says could mean launching strikes, declaring victory and quickly pulling everyone out. The same report says the 21,600-pound bomb likely cannot penetrate deep enough to reach sites fortified by granite, that one source called it "a massive information operation type weapon", that Pentagon planners have options amounting to a "fireworks show" to give Trump an off-ramp, and that some departing US troops in the region may not be replaced. The White House said it does not comment on military plans and that Trump keeps all options on the table.
