30 June 2026 – This third webinar of the European Network of Local Resilience Taskforces (EUNLRT), entitled “Making adaptation bankable: Innovative Instruments, Governance and Practice from CLIMATEFIT Territories”, focused on the practical conditions needed to turn climate adaptation priorities into credible, finance-ready projects.
During this 90-minute session, participants explored how innovative financial instruments, appropriate governance arrangements and stronger collaboration between public authorities and financial actors can support the implementation of adaptation projects.
The webinar opened with a keynote by Renata Haseth, Vice President at BwB, who introduced the main principles and enabling conditions behind bankable adaptation projects. A first panel, moderated by Alexandra Jaunet from ACTIERRA, then brought together representatives of CLIMATEFIT Leader Territories to share their experiences of developing investment concepts for flagship adaptation projects, including the challenges encountered, solutions explored and lessons learned.
An interactive Slido session invited participants to reflect on the obstacles preventing adaptation projects from attracting finance and on the relationships between public authorities and financial institutions.
The second panel brought together Stefana Chiru and Liana Mirea from the Romanian Energy Efficiency Fund (FREE), as well as Huiling Mia Zhu from the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). The discussion examined what makes an adaptation project credible and attractive to financial actors, when engagement with them should begin, and how incentive mechanisms can create new opportunities for collaboration.
The exchanges highlighted that making adaptation projects bankable is not only about accessing funding. It also requires early dialogue, clear and credible project design, a shared understanding of expectations, appropriate incentives and strong long-term partnerships.
The webinar strengthened peer-to-peer exchange within the EUNLRT community and connected the discussion with upcoming CLIMATEFIT activities, including replication, the One-Stop Shop and the next webinar in the series.
