Udawalawe Elephant Safari 🐘 | Sri Lanka's Majestic Giants in the Wild! Udawalawe National Park, located in southern Sri Lanka, is a must-visit destination for wildlife lovers and anyone eager to experience a real safari adventure. Just 200 km from Colombo and easily accessible from the south or Ella, this park offers one of the best chances to witness elephants in the wild. In this video, we take you along on our June 2023 safari where we saw over 20 elephants, including adorable baby elephants up close—almost close enough to touch (but don't worry, we didn’t!). 🐘💚 🌿 What You'll See in This Video: Wild Sri Lankan elephants (Elephas maximus maximus) in their natural habitat Beautiful landscapes with mountains and lakes Other wildlife like buffalo, crocodiles, and birds A visit to the Elephant Transit Home (ETH), where orphaned elephants are rehabilitated 🛻 Our Experience: We paid around 15,000 LKR (~40€) per person, which included a 2-3 hour private jeep safari and a very kind guide who answered all our questions. Being in a jeep with just our group of 5 made it feel very personal and immersive. 📸 The highlight? Watching a mother elephant and her baby cross right in front of us—it was magical and slightly nerve-wracking (wild animals are unpredictable after all). 📍 Park Details: Size: 124.69 km² Over 400 elephants in the park Best time to visit: May to September (dry season) 🐘 Elephant Transit Home (ETH): Established in 1995, the ETH is a rehabilitation center for injured and orphaned baby elephants.
