Every dawn Odin sends them out — two black wings cutting the frost over Midgard, over the whale-road, over the burning pyre. Huginn, Thought, ranges wide. Muninn, Memory, carries what stays true. Each evening Odin waits in the dark high seat — no cup raised, no harp sounding. Only the wind at the roof-tree’s seam. For Huginn he fears. But for Muninn more.
The Grímnismál says it plainly: thought may wander and find its way back. But memory, once lost, does not return. This song is built on that one line — the quietest, but one of the most devastating sentence in all the realms. The king of gods, master of runes and war, lord of the hanged, sitting alone in the dusk. Afraid of forgetting.
Huginn and Muninn are not simply messengers. They are Odin’s consciousness extended across the Nine Realms — his eyes where he has none, his knowledge where even Mimir’s well cannot reach. Every sword-storm, every broken oath-ring, every last lamp in a house alone: the ravens see it all. And bring it home.

🎼 LYRICS
Grey on the rafters grey on the spear
Grey in the high seat winter and fear
One-eyed watcher waiting alone
Two black wings and the world unknown
Day cracks open The branches shake
Feathers scatter above the lake
Out through the cold-light over the rim
Odin sends them The sky takes him
At first of morning the ravens rise
Cutting the frost with their iron cries
Over Midgard the pair are thrown
Far from the high seat far from stone
Over the headlands over the snow
Over the whale-road’s heaving flow
Over the smoke from the farmer’s fire
Over the hall and the funeral pyre
One for the thought that ranges wide
One for the memory tucked inside
Both of them black in the breaking day
Both of them bearing the world away
Over the spear-field over the foam
Out where the living and dying roam
All that is whispered all that is seen
Goes with the wings of the raven king
Huginn and Muninn black on the wind
Out through the world and the wars of men
Huginn and Muninn come back home
Back to the shoulder back to the throne
Bring him the tale of the far-off plain
Bring him the rumor the blood the rain
Huginn and Muninn sky-dark pair
The world flies out and returns through air
They see the red where the sword-storm fed
The wolf at heel of the newly dead
They see bent mail and a broken sign
A lord face-down in the trampled brine
They see the ship with its neck of pine
They see oath-rings flash in the firelight shine
They see the plough and the boundary stone
And the last-lit lamp in a house alone
They cross the mountains they cross the mere
They cross through all that men hold dear
Nothing is hidden from wing or sky
Nothing stays buried when ravens fly
Feather and beak
Shadow and flame
One brings the rumor
One brings the name
Over the earth
Over the sea
Back to the high one
Who waits to see
The one-eyed god in the high seat leans
Listening hard through the dusk between
For Huginn first his heart takes fear
But for Muninn more says the old song clear
Thought may wander and lose the track
But memory lost does not come back
So evening deepens the rafters ring
Still he waits for the beat of wing
No harp is sounding No cup is raised
The hall sits dark in the afterhaze
Only the wind by the roof-tree’s seam
Only the watch of the hooded king
Huginn and Muninn black on the wind
Out through the world and the wars of men
Huginn and Muninn come back home
Back to the shoulder back to the throne
Bring him the tale of the far-off plain
Bring him the rumor the blood the rain
Huginn and Muninn sky-dark pair
The world flies out and returns through air
Huginn and Muninn dusk-dark two
One brings the old and one brings the new
Huginn and Muninn wheel and glide
Thought at his left hand memory at his side
Grey on the rafters grey on the spear
Night in the high seat winter and fear
One-eyed watcher no longer alone
Two black wings and the world brought home
