Some confusion may instantly arise here. This is neither the British "Tornados", nor the American "Tornadoes", nor indeed any of those other Tornados (there were at least a dozen acts of this name) but a group from New Zealand actually named "The Tornados", but whose name is misspelled as "The Tornadoes" on just this one single. It must be said that most of The Tornados bands of the 1960s sounded fairly alike, too. Except for perhaps the Detroit R&B group of the name. And maybe the German one which cut a killer cover of "Sittin' In The Park." Got that? Good. Formed in 1958 in Wellington as a five-piece with two guitarists, these Tornados cut a single for the local Tala label before dropping one guitarist and being signed to HMV nationally in NZ. Fairly pat Shadows-influenced stuff here, as you can hear, but with a Univox organ carrying the "Caravan" motif. Hardly inspired, but pleasant enough. After four releases at home, the band moved to Australia in 1963 for a couple of releases as The Kiwi Four (a sensible name change to avoid being mistaken for the British group) and would at some point back an early incarnation of The Bee Gees. Bob Taylor (organ), Scott Arnold (guitar), Barry Coupland (bass), Kevin McKeefry (drums).
