In this video, I’ll show you how to deploy an additional Domain Controller (DC2) within an existing Active Directory environment, step by step. We’ll start by preparing the new Windows Server, configuring the required network settings and DNS, and joining the server to the existing Active Directory domain. Next, we’ll install the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role and promote the server as an additional Domain Controller. After the DC2 promotion is completed and the server has restarted, the next important step is to verify that the new Domain Controller is healthy and functioning correctly. We’ll check the Domain Controller health using the DCDIAG command, followed by checking Active Directory replication using REPADMIN /REPLSUMMARY. We should also verify that SYSVOL and NETLOGON shares are available and that DNS is working correctly, as these are critical components of a healthy Active Directory environment. These verification steps help confirm that DC2 has been successfully deployed and is communicating and replicating correctly with the existing Domain Controller.
I sincerely apologize that I forgot to demonstrate the complete health-check and replication verification process in this video. After deploying a new Domain Controller, these checks are very important and should be performed to confirm that Active Directory is functioning properly. I will cover the complete DCDIAG, REPADMIN /REPLSUMMARY, SYSVOL, NETLOGON, DNS, and Active Directory replication verification process in detail in my next video.
