Watch heavily rusted truck leaf springs go through an incredible transformation into razor-sharp forged axes.
Worn-out leaf spring packs arrive at the forge works caked in rust and road grime. Each pack is broken down into single leaves, stripped of scale, and cut into heavy spring steel billets. The billets are heated to a glowing orange and hammered under a pneumatic power hammer into the wedge shape of an axe head, then punched and drifted to form the handle eye and trimmed to profile. The forgings are hardened in an oil quench and tempered for toughness, ground to bright steel, and sharpened to a razor edge before being fitted with oiled hickory handles, tested, and packed.
From rusty scrap springs to a gleaming, razor-sharp axe — watch the entire forging process from start to finish.
