EX-WOLVE WARD BOOSTING NETS – Jerod Ward has been one of the Nets’ summer league hopefuls this week you can’t help but notice. His athleticism running up and down the floor leaps out at you. The fact he is able to run at all is impressive by itself. Ward, once one of the most highly recruited high school players, a Dapper Dan All-America sort, has undergone three left knee surgeries, two of them major reconstructions, in the past five years. The Nets coaches have been impressed and they like what they see. Ward was the lone offensive glimmer with 14 points in yesterday’s 66-61 defeat to Milwaukee. Ward, who hits the boards, too, also had eight rebounds. “The guy’s really athletic, gets up and down the floor. You kind of wonder why he hasn’t been in the league,” (Bryon)Scott said. “It makes you wonder as a coach, ‘What’s going on?'” ...... "Obviously there is not a better player in the country. It is just that simple," said DeMatha Coach Morgan Wootten, who has coached numerous high school all-Americans. "He has great size. He can handle and shoot the ball like a small guard. He is a guard in a big man's body. And he can throw some dunks down. He is really a show." Wootten got a glimpse of Ward this season when DeMatha played in the December King Cotton Classic in Pine Bluff, Ark., where two years ago Arkansas's Corliss Williamson was the talk of the country. Ward was named the tournament's most valuable player and set a record with 10 blocked shots in one game. "The guy can just flat-out play," said Wootten. "He will be a lot like {North Carolina's} Rasheed Wallace {in terms of impact}. He has the quickness and agility of {former DeMatha} players like Adrian Branch and Steve Hood.
