A city of stilts on a black lagoon. An alley in Mumbai where sunlight never touches the ground. Families in Manila eating meat pulled from restaurant trash. A hillside in Cairo buried under the city's own waste.
These are not ruins. People live here, work here and raise children here. This documentary travels through 15 of the harshest places on Earth: Makoko in Lagos, Dharavi in Mumbai, Tondo in Manila, Korail in Dhaka, Orangi Town in Karachi, Rocinha in Rio, Neza in Mexico City, Petare in Caracas, Kibera in Nairobi, Cité Soleil in Port-au-Prince, Khayelitsha in Cape Town, Garbage City in Cairo, West Point in Monrovia, Agbogbloshie in Accra and Ciudad Bolívar in Bogotá.
One question runs beneath all of them: how does anyone survive here and still hold on to their dignity? Stay until the last city. The answer is not the one most people expect.
