Welcome to Episode 9 of The Guitar Vault Archive! Today we’re exploring my 1990 Paul Reed Smith Special in Translucent Vintage Cherry. This is a true pre-factory PRS built in the original Annapolis, Maryland workshop before the company moved to Stevensville in 1995. Built for the hard rock/metal player of the era, this Special features a 1-piece solid mahogany body, wide-thin mahogany neck with a pre-CNC small heel joint, 24-fret Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with moon inlays, original Mil-Com one-piece cast brass tremolo, and Schaller-made winged locking tuners. We’ll break down its unique construction, show what each position of the classic 5-way rotary switch actually does (featuring the original HFS and Vintage Bass humbuckers), and test both clean and high-gain tones. 🎸 TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 - Tahoe's Studio Intro 🐕 0:10 - Performance Track Demo 1:50 - Welcome & Annapolis Pre-Factory History 2:10 - Neck Profile & Bonding with the Guitar 2:41 - Body Specs & Translucent Cherry Finish 3:00 - Electronics & Hardware (Mil-Com Tremolo) 3:20 - HFS & Vintage Bass Pickups 3:35 - Neck Construction, Brazilian Rosewood & Small Heel 4:15 - Headstock, Slip-Nut & Winged Locking Tuners 4:42 - 5-Way Rotary Switch Demo (Clean) 5:34 - 5-Way Rotary Switch Demo (Overdrive) 6:21 - PRS History & Real-World Condition Notes 6:52 - Final Verdict on Rotary Switches & Playability 7:09 - What's Next (Jackson Limited-Edition X Series CDX22) 7:22 - Tahoe Trail Walk Outro 🌲🐾 If you enjoyed this deep dive, please LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE to support the archive! #PRS #PaulReedSmith #PRSSpecial #VintagePRS #PreFactoryPRS #GuitarDemo #GuitarReview #AlpineChords #GuitarVaultArchive
