San Francisco Cable Car Turnaround at Powell & Market

Ever wonder how the cable cars turn around? Watch one of San Francisco’s famous cable cars being manually turned around at the Powell and Market Street turntable. At the end of the route, workers rotate the historic cable car by hand so it can begin its next trip through downtown San Francisco. It is a simple process, but also one of those wonderfully old-fashioned sights that makes the city feel like San Francisco. This cable car serves the Powell–Hyde line, one of the city’s most popular routes.
