Taking our 6-year-old on a 14-hour flight across the world to Japan! In this episode, our family begins a 12-day adventure starting with a smart travel hack: landing at Haneda Airport and staying in Kawasaki to beat jet lag on a budget.
From there, we take a day trip to Yokohama to explore Negishi Forest Park, hunt down famous steamed panda buns in Yokohama Chinatown, and face our fears 360 feet in the air on the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris Wheel and Yokohama Air Cabin!
If you're planning a trip to Japan with kids or looking for the best things to do in Yokohama and Tokyo with family, here is what our first 48 hours looked like!
📍 PLACES VISITED & HIGHLIGHTS:
Planning a trip to Japan with kids? See how we managed our first 48 hours in Yokohama and Kawasaki with a 6-year-old.
Traveling across the world with young children requires careful planning to handle jet lag effectively. We chose a Kawasaki hotel as our home base because it offers a more affordable alternative to central Tokyo while remaining close to Haneda Airport for a smoother arrival. This video documents our transition from the flight to our first full day of exploring local sights.
Our itinerary covers the highlights of visiting Yokohama with kids, including the historic forest park, street food in Chinatown, and the scenic views from the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris Wheel. We also share practical tips on navigating the train system and finding family-friendly snacks to help you prepare your own Japan itinerary for an upcoming trip.

💡 JAPAN FAMILY TRAVEL TIPS FROM THIS VIDEO:
• Why stay in Kawasaki? It's significantly cheaper than central Tokyo hotels, closer to Haneda Airport, and a calm base to recover from jet lag.
• Getting around: Setting up a digital or physical Suica card at the airport makes trains and vending machines seamless.
• Food with kids: Yokohama Chinatown has incredible street snacks, but be prepared for weekend queues!
