THE HUTMASTER

For over a century, a small network of alpine huts have operated in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Run by off-the-grid teams called “croo”, they span 50 miles of the Appalachian Trail and serve up home cooked meals each day to the many guests. Its hard to make food without ingredients, though, so Mack Brewer and her team at the Lake of the Clouds Hut hike in 70 pounds of supplies a few times a week because they know a full belly can also feed the soul.
