Anyango Performs Nyatiti for Japanese Elementary Students

During the Japan–Kenya Educational Cultural Exchange Program 2026, A Japanese musician Anyango gave a special music lesson to elementary school students. In this session, she performed the Nyatiti, an eight-string traditional instrument of the Luo people in Kenya. Students experienced the powerful rhythm and sound of this unique instrument and learned about Kenyan culture through music. Anyango is known as the world’s first female Nyatiti player, having trained in western Kenya where the instrument was traditionally played only by men.
