Is Jonathan Roumie really done with The Chosen? The man who plays Jesus posted a farewell, the internet exploded, and the real story is more moving than the rumor.
On September 17, 2026, a goodbye appeared on his verified Instagram account that began, “My friends, the hour has finally come.” Some fan accounts turned that into “he filmed his very last scene ever,” but that wording isn’t from him. The Chosen was always planned as seven seasons. Season 6 streams on Prime Video starting November 15, 2026, The Crucifixion arrives in theaters on March 12, 2027, and season 7, The Resurrection, is the finale. So the story isn’t over for viewers, and what’s ending is the filming.
We also look at what the role cost him. He called the crucifixion season “the hardest thing that I ever did in my life,” and said it continues to affect him in ways he did not anticipate. He also said that while filming season 7, it’s “a lot less heavy” and there’s more joy. He asked fans to pray that “we finish strong and that more people are reached.” And he said something tender: this may take the rest of his life to unpack, and he doesn’t know if he wants to let it go, because it keeps him connected to Jesus.
So I’ll ask you: when an actor says playing Jesus is something he may never fully let go of, is that beautiful devotion, or is it a role that asks too much of one person? Should anyone carry that role for ten years? And does ending The Chosen on schedule feel right to you, or too soon? Tell me what you think in the comments.
If you believe a person can pour years into something bigger than themselves and walk away changed, type “finish strong” in the comments. Like, comment and subscribe for more.
