September 20th, 2026 - iKnow Week 17 - Appropriating Your Authority

What does it truly mean to walk in the authority that Jesus has given us? This message tackles one of the most important yet underutilized truths in the Christian life: the difference between possessing authority and actually putting it to use. Drawing from Matthew 28:18, where Jesus declares that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to him, we are reminded that this declaration is not just a theological statement but the very foundation upon which our calling as believers rests. Before Jesus ever commissioned his followers to go into the world, he first wanted them to understand who held all the power. That sequence matters. We cannot effectively go if we do not first grasp the authority behind the going. The message draws a vivid and practical distinction between possession and appropriation, using the image of someone carrying a powerful tool in their pocket but never reaching for it in a moment of desperate need. Too many of us carry the delegated authority of Jesus Christ like a phone buried in a pocket with no signal, never discovering that it can connect us to something far greater than our circumstances. The challenge before us is not to simply know these truths in our minds but to let them move through us and become the active, living force that shapes how we pray, how we serve, and how we engage with a world that desperately needs to see the church walking in its full spiritual inheritance.
