Despite significant age differences, Blanco shares a close bond with his siblings, attributing the affectionate side to his mother. However, Blanco also witnessed his father's brutal and violent side, including an incident in which he killed a member of his crew at a social gathering because the man treated Blanco roughly. Terrifyingly, Blanco's father set the body on fire while Blanco watched in shock. Following the brutal murder, the man's widow was given an ultimatum: face death or become Blanco's nanny. Ultimately, she chose the latter. Blanco describes this disturbing upbringing as 'normal' due to the repetitive instances of gun and machete violence.
