About Artist:
Vincent Willem van Gogh, a Dutch post-impressionist painter (1853-1890), is celebrated posthumously as one of the most influential figures in Western art history. Despite creating approximately 2,100 artworks in just a decade, including 860 oil paintings, his fame and recognition came after his tragic death at the age of 37. His oeuvre encompassed a wide range of subjects, from landscapes and still lifes to portraits and self-portraits, characterized by bold colors and expressive brushwork, which laid the groundwork for modern art.
Van Gogh's upbringing in an upper-middle-class family initially led him to pursue a career as an art dealer. However, he turned to painting in 1881 due to financial and emotional struggles. Supported by his brother Theo, Van Gogh's artistic style underwent significant evolution over his brief career, transitioning from subdued tones to vibrant hues, particularly during his time in Arles, France.
Today, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam stands as a testament to his enduring legacy, housing the largest collection of his works and perpetuating his profound impact on art and culture worldwide.
