Doordarshan was criticised, with reason, for its many lapses, but what cannot be denied is that it played such a big role in ensuring that its viewers got exposed to the finest of Indian classical arts – music, dance, cinema. What a shame to see it being reduced to what it is today when with all the resources at their command, there is not one private channel that manages to cover culture in even a fractionally comparable way.
