The Trick to Create ATMOSPHERE So Your Photos Stand Out

How to create atmosphere in a photo, and make your subject stand out instead of blending into the background. Atmosphere is what makes an image feel alive, like you could step into it. It rarely comes out of the camera that way, and it is also not a preset. In this video I rebuild it from scratch on 2 photos, starting from the raw file, using masks and light. Every single time I build fog or light, I subtract the subject from the mask. That is what separates it from the background instead of flattening everything together. Work at a low flow and use masks. I brush at 10% and build it up in passes. One strong stroke always looks fake, and you can't take it back once it's on there. And decide what the photo should feel like before you touch a slider. On the first image I was rebuilding a foggy forest I had shot on another day, because that is how that place felt to me.
