Have you ever needed to simply get the wiggles out or take a short break to
refocus on your work or a task?
A few Sumner-Bonney Lake School District elementary schools offer just that to students in the form of sensory activities. From jumping among planets like an astronaut on a sensory walk to touching rope, shells and sequins on a sensory wall, students have the opportunity to take a short break from class in an effort to calm down, release some energy or recenter themselves.
Currently at Donald Eismann Elementary and coming soon to Tehaleh Heights Elementary, spacethemed interactive paths use bright-colored decals in common spaces that allow students to tip toe, squat, side step and jump in a specific order that takes them from blast off to a moon landing.
Emerald Hills Elementary hosts a nature-themed sensory path specifically sized to fit in a hallway.
Sensory activities have proven effective in helping students better focus in the classroom. We’re thankful for donations that make these sensory activities possible. Parent Teacher Associations and grants purchased the paths.
