We have a history. God has a presence. That distinction changes how we understand TIME, ETERNAL LIFE, and what it means to KNOW God. Human beings experience life through the construct of time. We remember yesterday, occupy today, and anticipate tomorrow. Our lives are measured by birthdays, failures, accomplishments, seasons, beginnings, and endings. We have a history. But is God confined to that same construct? 📖 “Before the mountains were brought forth... even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” — Psalm 90:2 Not simply God WAS. Not merely God WILL BE. God IS. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ MAN HAS A HISTORY. GOD HAS A PRESENCE. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ When Moses asked God what he should tell Israel, God answered: 📖 “I AM THAT I AM...” — Exodus 3:14 We experience existence sequentially. God is not dependent upon our clocks, calendars, aging, or timelines in order to BE God. So what happens when a time-bound human being enters into relationship with the eternal God? Jesus gives us an answer: 📖 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” — John 17:3 Eternal life isn't merely about how LONG we live. It's about WHO we know. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT IF ETERNAL LIFE HAS ALREADY BEGUN? ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ We often speak of eternal life exclusively in the future: “One day I'll have eternal life.” “One day I'll be with God.” But Jesus describes eternal life relationally: “THAT THEY MIGHT KNOW THEE.” For the believer, eternal life isn't merely a destination beyond the grave. It begins in relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Our earthly lives are experienced within time, yet through Christ we enter relationship with the eternal God. The finite has been invited into fellowship with the Infinite. We still age. We still experience yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We still live within earthly time. But our relationship with God gives us a present experience of a life that isn't ultimately defined by time. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ THE GOD WHO IS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Scripture repeatedly brings us back to God's presence: “I AM.” “God is...” 📖 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” — Hebrews 13:8 This doesn't mean time is unreal or believers escape earthly chronology. It means God isn't limited by the temporal boundaries governing His creation. When the eternal God enters our story, our HISTORY encounters His PRESENCE. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ YOUR HISTORY IS REAL—BUT IT ISN'T GOD ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Your past happened. Your victories happened. Your mistakes happened. Your disappointments happened. Your accomplishments happened. But none of them possess God's authority over your present identity. Sometimes we allow what WAS to speak louder than the One WHO IS. Our history explains where we've been. God's presence reveals who we are becoming. 📖 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature...” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 Your history provides context. It doesn't have to become your identity. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💭 SOMETHING TO CONSIDER ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Am I relating to God primarily through what He DID, or recognizing what He IS doing? Have I reduced my relationship with God to memories? Am I waiting for eternal life to begin someday when Jesus says knowing God IS eternal life? And perhaps the biggest question: What changes when my history encounters God's presence? ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 SCRIPTURES ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Psalm 90:1–4 Exodus 3:13–14 John 17:3 John 8:58 Hebrews 13:8 2 Corinthians 5:17 Revelation 1:8 Acts 17:28 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ THE TAKEAWAY ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Man has a history. God has a presence. We remember what WAS. We anticipate what WILL BE. But God calls us to know Him NOW. Don't become so consumed with yesterday that you miss His presence today, and don't postpone knowing Him until tomorrow. Eternal life isn't merely endless existence. Eternal life is knowing the eternal God through Jesus Christ. And for the believer... that relationship has already begun. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CONTINUE GROWING WITH US ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 Sunday School Sundays | 8:30 AM ET ⛪ Acts 2 Service Sundays | 10:30 AM ET 🔥 Knowing & Experiencing the Holy Spirit Sundays | 6:30 PM ET Join us: https://bit.ly/lydeLIFEteams Resources: eheys.org Subscribe to LifeTeams with Phillip & Melissa Lyde for real Scripture, real conversations, and practical discipleship as we learn not merely to know ABOUT God but to KNOW Him. 👍 Like | 💬 Comment | 🔔 Subscribe | ↗️ Share #GodHasAPresence #ManHasAHistory #EternalLife #John173 #IAm #SundaySchool #BibleStudy #KnowGod #JesusChrist #ChristianLiving #LifeTeams
