In 2023, master storyteller Peter Laws shared a terrifying paranormal encounter involving a haunted house, a mysterious demonic creature, and a family terrorized by something seemingly inhuman. But what Peter Laws may not have known is that this chilling true ghost story was told decades earlier—and the original account reveals an entirely different version of events. In 1917, three newlywed couples rented a beautiful old mansion in California, unaware of the horrors that allegedly awaited them. Phantom footsteps, invisible attacks, unexplained voices, and a grotesque, orange-haired creature with terrifying yellow teeth and claw-like hands would turn their dream home into a living nightmare. But the most disturbing part of this supernatural mystery came years later, when the creature allegedly returned to terrorize another generation of the family. Paranormal researcher Brad Steiger published a remarkably similar haunting in his book Shadow World, which later became the basis for Peter Laws' chilling retelling. However, our research uncovered a fascinating earlier account published in the May 1963 issue of FATE Magazine, written by M. G. Murphy and accompanied by a claim of a notarized affidavit.
