“Well, I'm definitely coming back, probably. Maybe, maybe, maybe.” It’s one of the lines from the series finale of my favourite TV show of all time, Community. It reminds me of all the times I’ve said to old friends, “let’s catch up sometime,” or “I’ll let you know when I’m around.” I don’t. Part of me doesn’t want to keep glancing back. I can’t be looking up flights for Wellington or Singapore when I have a life to build here and now. “I can’t count the reasons I should stay. One by one they all just fade away.” No number of FaceTimes will ever replace the philosophical walks across Jurong Point’s humid heat or a politically incorrect game of Quiplash at Stars’. Nothing feels stranger than watching years of lived-in banter become an Instagram Story you swipe past in a second. Rather than trying to recreate those times, I wanted to preserve what was left of them. Curating the old footage was a process of holding on, editing it into a montage, then letting go, releasing it into the ever-growing universe of YouTube videos. It becomes TV. “It’s comfort. A friend you’ve known so long, you let it be with you.” TV’s the best friend there is. TV doesn’t flake on you last minute. TV doesn’t leave you on seen. TV doesn’t grow old. But I do. COLLAB?
