Allegretto All tracks performed by Massimiliano Martinelli, Jonathan Floril Born in the vicinity of Vienna in 1797, Franz Peter Schubert is rightly considered one of the most significant and influential composers of all time. Largely unknown in his time, his premature death in 1828 cut short his career, just as he promised to reach widespread fame, and left us a host unperformed an unknown pieces (Symphony No. 9, String Quartet No. 14 Death and the Maiden), as well as unfinished works (e.g. Symphony No. 8). Still greatly admired by a select number of local musical connoisseurs, it was later romantic composers such as Mendelssohn, Schumann, Liszt, and Brahms who championed his work, promoting it and their creator to the greater public, where Schubert was soon recognised for his artistic merits.
