Councilmember Trayon White Introduces Bill to stop tickets from doubling

On Tuesday, October 20, 2026x Councilmember Trayon White, Sr., introduced legislation to STOP DC from doubling traffic and parking fines simply because someone misses a payment deadline. 💵 A $100 ticket becomes $200. A $250 ticket becomes $500. That’s not accountability. That’s an unnecessary financial burden on working families. We should NOT be balancing DC’s budget on the backs of drivers! The impact is especially troubling in Black communities. From 2016 to 2020, nearly $467 MILLION in traffic fines was issued in predominantly Black, lower-income neighborhoods. Let’s be clear: This bill doesn’t eliminate tickets or excuse unsafe driving. It ends the penalty that doubles the original fine. We can have safe streets without pushing families deeper into debt. It’s time for fairness, not financial punishment. #Ward8 #TrayonWhite #DCPolitics #EconomicJustice
