Welcome to my video on The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild (at least, the first part of it)! In this video essay/review, we will walk through the game bit by bit, gathering the scattered memories and piecing together the broken fairy tale of the Zelda mythology.
Is it possible to truly start over? Can you ever really erase the mistakes of your past, to begin anew with a fresh slate? Breath of the Wild is a game that really puzzles me, even to this day, because of these sorts of questions. I love the open ended exploration, the quiet meditation of walking through nature, the calming sensation of gliding through the bright blue sky. But this world feels like it exists beyond its own narrative function. It leaves behind many of the traditions and trappings which once gave the Zelda series such a unique and impactful identity. And I'm not quite sure what to make of it.
This is a reflection on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Thanks for watching.
